We are currently looking to hire a Junior IT Technician to join our Nelson office. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about technology and eager to support both internal and customer-facing platforms. As a Junior IT Technician, you will play a key role in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and customizing a variety of hardware and software applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Operating System and Application Support

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows desktop operating systems in both domain and non-domain environments.
  • Provide basic support for Windows Server operating systems.
  • Assist with onboarding tasks for both new and existing customers, focusing on inventory management and gaining access to existing server/network infrastructure.
  • Help with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of business applications (e.g., MS Office, QuickBooks).
  • Provide assistance to customers with common computer-related issues such as virus removal, password resets, email setup, and software installations.

Networking

  • Assist with troubleshooting network-related issues.
  • Learn and apply basic knowledge of network architecture (e.g., switches, routers, and internet connectivity).

Server and Cloud-based Services

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Office 365 or Google Apps.
  • Provide support with basic administration of Microsoft 365 and Azure AD, including users, groups, and simple file management in SharePoint.

Security

  • Assist with basic administration of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) systems.
  • Help manage Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, and email filtering systems.
  • Support with basic email security solutions.

Phone Systems

  • Assist with basic administration of VoIP and cloud-based phone systems.
  • Help with the installation and troubleshooting of telephone handsets and connectivity.

Hardware

  • Troubleshoot basic hardware issues (servers, workstations, routers, network switches, etc.) both remotely and in person.

Documentation

  • Document changes and resolutions to customer issues.
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date documentation for customer networks and processes.
  • Help ensure customer data security and that proper backups are in place.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work independently within provided guidelines while seeking support for more complex issues.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by balancing individual and team responsibilities, offering and accepting feedback, and staying focused on team goals.
  • Follow clear instructions with minimal supervision and adapt to changing situations.
  • Assist in explaining technical concepts to clients in a clear and concise manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 0 to 1 year of relevant working experience, or relevant internship experience. Experience with a Managed Service Provider (MSP) is an asset but not required.
  • A Computer Systems Diploma or equivalent education is an asset but not required.
  • Basic understanding of operating systems, hardware, and networking.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with patch management and system documentation is an asset, with a willingness to learn about patch management and best practices.
  • Willingness to develop time management skills in a fast-paced environment and ability to manage tasks effectively.
  • The candidate must be able to complete the physical requirements of the job, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing or sitting for extended periods, and using handheld tools.
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with various technologies.
  • Valid Drivers License
